Mother’s Day… Not just for mothers?

Written by-Zach-

I have very observant friends. I was told about this card the other day. I had to run to K-mart and pick up this card. (They’re still in business? Who knew?)

A Mother’s Day card for fathers? That has to be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. Is this K-mart’s lame attempt at being progressive? I’m not certain but I assume it’s aimed at split/gay families with no mother. It’s a shame there’s so much inequality in this world that there’s no opportunity for us to celebrate our fathers. Ya know? I wish there was a Father’s Day so mothers didn’t get all of the caretaking credit. I should make a holiday like that. I would make it an annual holiday on the 3rd Sunday in June.

ammmm…. well… you see, the problem is that there is a father’s day(atleast where i’m from)

  2. KFJ Said,

You gotta be kidding me!!! That is CRAZY! I would like to say that “I have seen it all”, but I know I haven’t :)

  3. stoogepie Said,

Zach, a father’s day is a great idea! And I think you have picked just around the perfect day, too. There aren’t many holidays around the third Sunday in June. I mean, there is Flag Day in June. In fact, I just got a greeting card to send to my mother that says, “Flag Day isn’t just for flags — it’s for anyone who knows what it’s like to wave.”

Igonis, the problem might be that you are from one of the few nations that has a fathers day. Like Iran (March 14) or Cuba (third Sunday in June). Both sworn enemies of the United States. Is your note to Zach a veiled declaration that you hate everything American? Or were you just being sarcastic? Like Zach was. Sarcasm is funny like that!

  4. Nick Said,

Yah…Okay it’s pretty stupid. However, someone probably got paid 6 figures to come up with a creative marketing scheme, and there it is. I’m quite positive, however, that they didn’t put much research into their work. If they had done some analysis they would have deduced that the act of card purchasing for fathers ON Mother’s day actually creates a little known phenomenon I like to call the ‘Kindness Paradox’. This paradox, or dillema as it seems fit, occurs in a situation when doing something nice for someone actually turns out to have negative effects. This problem closely resembles the economic Good/Bad Paradox that plagues American farmers.

Purchasing this card for your Father on Mother’s day(because it is the nice thing to do) will actually act as a catalyst to an argument between such father and mother which may(quite often actually) lead to divorce. Picture the situation of a father who get’s a card for Father’s Day AND Mother’s day. Well, let’s face it, my Mom would be pissed. After a couple years the anger would build up and BLAMO: Divorce. So Mr. Marketer might think he created a brilliant world-peace resembling idea, but in fact, he has destroyed households all over the United States. More destroyed households leads to unfriendly families, which leads to less cards, which leads to a smaller paycheck for Mr. Marketer. Just another example of the Kindness Paradox at work.

  5. -Zach- Said,

Ya, I’m sure that the Mr. Marketer had nothing but money in mind. It is a paradox that probably will work out that way. I doubt it had anything to do with kindness.
It’s probably more likely a has-been card marketer since K-mart is the only place you can find it. I’m sure he’s on his way out.
What a great way to go.

  6. -Zach- Said,

But in all fairness. I bought it.

  7. Matt Said,

wow…is all i really have to say, but you know what, in order for something to work, you need a bandwagon right? i’ll celebrate your holiday zach. Oh, did you happen to read up on stephen king’s comment about literacy and the army???

  8. -Zach- Said,

Thanks for helping me promote Father’s Day. I hope it catches on.

Yeah, I watched the video. I guess I don’t understand why it’s so controversial.

  9. The Other Zach Said,

Michael Jackson knows…. they planning on making mothers days cards for him too?
